- New bank HQ Tier III Data Centre
Continuing the long relationship with this global bank, Sudlows DMCC was requested to design a new data centre within its headquarters in Riyadh to allow migration from their old facility. The new data centre had to be designed to fit within the buildings structural frame constraints and on a single floor only.
The building’s structural design required the new data centre to be installed around columns and shear walls on the proposed data centre level. The layout and plant rooms had to fit and make best use of the space whilst providing the required number of racks and testing facilities for the bank as well as diverse rooms for the electrical distribution systems. An essential requirement of the project was to meet Uptime Tier III.
The final data centre housed 120 racks at 5kW average rack density while diverse electrical and communication risers were installed in the data centre from the ground floor. All MEP systems were concurrently maintainable.
All the data centre MEP equipment, except the generators and transformers, were located on the dedicated data centre floor making the infrastructure secure and separate from the general office facilities as specified by the bank.
The new bank headquarters can now facilitate a new data centre while key aspects such as requirements from the IT department have been factored in to ensure it is fit for purpose.
Sudlows DMCC were able to quickly produce concepts and identify areas within the building which needed upgrading to allow the data centre to function within the allocated space. Close communications and partnership working with the main building consultant ensured the project design delivered the needs of the banks IT department for the next 10+ years.
“This project is an example of how Sudlows DMCC experience and skills are utilised in designing bespoke solutions to suit any building space.
“The bank now has a modern and efficient infrastructure that hasn’t compromised the nature of the business and its new location.”
